President's Report to the last meeting
This is the President's report to the last INTAD meeting.
from Neville O'Brien

Oct 2005 Report...
INTAD President’s Report for September 2005

Special thanks to the Executive Members for their efforts and to the branch executives for the good work they are doing in their areas.
-          The first meeting at Mt Gravatt Griffiths University campus saved around $350.
-
Bundaberg F1 races were a success with about 10 schools attending. Gold Coast to Longreach were represented. The judging and racing were held on Thursday- some interesting car designs were displayed. Keith opened his new CAD/CAM room with official speeches etc from several people including local business people. On Friday, we went on an industry visit to a light plane factory (I am never going to fly in a light plane again) & then onto the engine maker. Very interesting as CAD CAM along with highly trained tradesmen turned blocks of Aluminum into cylinder heads & seeing the testing procedures for each component was worthwhile. We should get several Journal articles from the competition. The Catia software looks interesting. I have gained a contact in State Development that could lead to a state department being our conference sponsor in 2006.
-          I have opened talks with Mal Lee about the possibility of Sunnie Coast running the 2006 Conference. It is only at a talking stage as there are many people to have input to such a decision. He is gathering information about venues etc so we can think about whether this is a way we want to go.
-          The INTAD website went to within 14 Mb of going over our download limit.
-          I attended a Solid Edge seminar on Saturday Oct 3 that Terry Geiger organized. The software has more features than Pro/DESKTOP (nearer to Pro/E) & at $110 for a school site license as well as the students can take it home- the downside is there are no upgrades except if paid for.
-
Darling Downs has an additional membership category for retired members of $10 with no Journals for the AGM to consider. Keith Holledge has suggested that we need to record these past member’s details for possible fill-in teachers.
-
Executive positions for 2006- everything is open for nominations for President, Treasurer, Secretary & Vice-President for INTAD to stay incorporated & for its smooth running- please, consider. AGM is on Oct 25 @ the Greek Club.
-          Neville Warner has informed me that the return rate of the Journal is only two or three per issue so the message seems to be getting to our members but the email rejection rate is over 50%. So some more work needs to be carried out for electronic communications to members.

Thanks,

Nev O’Brien
